New and Used Volvo Information:

The Volvo company was born when on April 14th 1927, their first car, nicknamed Jakob left their factory in Sweden.

Their story starts in the 1920’s when the explosion in popularity of the automobile began across the USA and Europe. In Sweden their interest was launched by the jubilee exhibition in 1923 attended by 97 car exhibitors. In that time around 12,000 new cars a year were imported to Sweden rising to 14,500 after 1925.

Internationally the common practice for manufacturers was to buy car components from industrial catalogues and use them to assemble their own car. As you can imagine the quality of car produced from this was not very high and many makers doing this quickly disappeared. The men who founded Volvo used a different theory however. They decided that Volvo quality was of the highest importance and that they should design the components to the car themselves. They would then select suppliers to make these parts according to their specifications. Car assembly would be carried out by experienced car builders employed by Volvo. This concept still applies to Volvo today.
