Fiat was formed in 1899 beginning with a small workforce which was fewer than 40 employees. Within 10 years there was large expansion with the Turin company producing over 1200 cars a year with a workforce of around 2550. The inspiration behind the company was Giovanni Agnelli who gleaned knowledge from his visits to America attempting to build Europe’s largest car factory in Turin. The factory is, to this day, a famous Turin landmark.
The Fiat company began to export and 1908 began to build cars in New York. By the 1990’s Fiats cars’ would be produced in over 22 countries around the world. They continue to acquire existing automobile companies and have purchased such companies as: Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferarri and Maserati.
Fiat have been manufacturing cars for over one hundred years now and remain one of the most successful in history.
