The History of SEAT: 1950 On May 9th the new Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo, S.A. (SEAT), is founded, with a total share capital of 600 million pesetas. 1954 SEAT increases the proportion of Spanish-made parts to 93%. Output to date: 2,983 cars. Workforce: SEAT has 1,700 employees.
1955 On May 5th, the factory is officially opened, covering a surface of nearly 200,000 square meters. Total production surpasses the 7,000 unit mark.
1956 1,000 new workers for SEAT are hired and new assembly facilities are commissioned. SEAT reaches its first production target: 10,000 cars per year, with an average of 42 units per day.
