New and used Saab Information:
In 1937 the Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Acronym SAAB) was created as the manufacturer for the national military aircraft.
After the Second World war the demand for aircraft plummeted with the management realising Saab should identify new areas of new growth. They decided that the automobile industry was the way ahead and so fifteen aircraft engineers were chosen and used to work on, and develop the companies’ first prototype car. Having no experience in this area created some fresh and innovative thinking, not trapped by the constraints which other manufacturers worked under – the convential mentality for car design.
In 1947 the prototypes the company created were presented to the press. This was a car like no other that existed. It featured a front wheel drive, a two-stroke engine and a strong safety cage with aerodynamics also kept in mind. This vehicle was called the Saab 92001.
In 1949 production of this model began producing over 20,000 cars until production was halted in 1956.
In 1955 the next Saab model was created – the Saab 93. This model featured a new transmission and tubeless tyres
Over the next years Saab produced many models including the Saab Sonetti (a sports car) and the Saab 95. They continue to create and manufacture new models.
