Rolls Royce History: The company was founded by Charles Stewart Rolls and Frederick Henry Royce. Royce was the son of a miller living near Peterborough and starting his working life at ten years of age selling newspapers for WH Smith.
He left this to pursue an apprenticeship with the Great Northern Railway works where he was given his first taste of engineering.
Some years later after purchasing a car he decided it was not meeting his own standards and decided that he could do better. He managed to achieve this, modifying the car so that it was a much better vehicle.
Some years later Royce met up with Charles Rolls. Rolls was a wealthy automobile enthusiast who had started his own new company. On hearing of Royce’s engine and mechanical ability he decided that he should view this vehicle, expecting it to be of a poor standard. He was presently surprised and the two came to a business arrangement which managed to create a new company which used both their expertise and launch their line selling quality cars.
