The "Peugeot Brothers" company and its famous products
It all started in the small commune of Hérimoncourt, in the Sous-Cratet area of the Doubs region, in the Peugeot windmill. In 1812, Jean-Frédéric and Jean-Pierre Peugeot obtained and used permission from the Prefect of the Doubs region to convert their windmill into a factory making rolled steel for saw blades and clock springs, and bright cylindrical steel. They founded the first "Peugeot Brothers" company. In 1818, a first patent was registered for the manufacture of saws, which heralded a new era manufacturing tools. From 1840 on, the Peugeot coffee mill entered kitchens, paving the way for a whole range of household appliances : irons, food choppers, sewing machines, washing machines, to name but a few, and including the famous pepper mill, which is still made today.
