New and used Lotus Information:
1948 - The first Lotus car is build, the model is based upon a 1930 Austin Seven saloon. It is used successfully by Colin Chapman.
1949 - The second Lotus, the Mark II is built.
1950 - The Mark II successfully competes in the British Trials.
1951 - The Lotus Mark III starts to compete in the 750cc road racing class. It does well, dominating the competition. Many people notice this and begin to order copies.
1952 - The Lotus Engineering Company is formed. The Mark IV is built and the Mark VI is designed to be the first Lotus Road Car.
1953 - Again orders pour in. This time for the Mark VI which becomes a very successful club racing car.
1955 - Lotus Cars Ltd is founded by Colin Chapman. The Mark IX is entered in Le Mans 24hour race.
1957 - The new Lotus Elite introduced.
1962 - The Lotus Elan is introduced.
1969 - Tony Rudd joins the Lotus company as Engineering Director.
1974 - Lotus decides to revive the name Elite which has been previously used, for their new four passenger model. The Lotus Elite is powered by a 2 litre, 160HP, 907 engine. The engine is superb exceeding European and U.S safety and emission regulations.
