New and Used Ferrari Information:
The founder, Enzo Ferrari was born near Modena in Italy on February 18th 1898. At the age of ten he saw his first motor race and was fascinated by what he saw. He could drive by the age of 13 and later in life built sports cars for Alfa Romeo.
Enzo Ferrari did not start making new cars for his own company until after World War II. The factory was first making ball bearings for the war effort but Ferrari moved in and used the factory for producing cars. Later the Ferrari company moved to the area of Maranello where their factory was destroyed by bombs. In 1946 they rebuilt the factory and it was renamed Ferrari.
The first vehicle to feature the famous horse trademark on the bonnet was a Ferrari 125 which was driven by Franco Cortese at the Rome Grand Prix of 1947. This logo was inspired by a painting on a fighter plane flown by fighter pilot Francesco Baracca during the Second World War.
Ford made an attempt to buy Ferrari for $18m in 1963 however Enzo Ferarri would only allow the deal to go through if he was allowed to run the racing side of the company. Ford refused and so the deal was off.
Ferrari were bought out however in the year of 1969, becoming part of the Fiat empire. Enzo Ferrari remained with the company as head of the Maranello company. Ferrari died on August 14th 1988 at the age of 90.
The Ferrari emblem remains a symbol of excellence around the globe.
